No outgoing greeting or message recording - Support says 24-72 hours to fix??????

Callers to my number get silence after the normal 6 rings. There's no outgoing message and no beep to start recording. 

 

I tried recording a new VM message but this had no effect.

 

I did an online chat with support, who "rebuilt" (their term) the voicemail service. That didn't fix it.  Then they rebooted my tg852g modem, which also had no effect, although why my modem would be involved puzzles me.

 

The best they could do was give me a 24-72 hour resolution time.

 

I find this unacceptable.
