No message indicator light with Uniden phone and Comcast Digital Voice

I have a Uniden CLX475-3 base unit and additional Uniden TCX 400 and TCX 905 handsets.  These are all equipped with message waiting indicator lights, but these do not seem to work with Comcast Digital Voice.  I have been in contact with Uniden and they tell me that these units support FSK signalling to control these lights.  Does Comcast support this?  I know Comcast supports SDT (stutter tone), but no one I have contacted at Comcast can give me a definitive answer on the FSK question.  Thank you.

barling, I'm waiting for the confirmation from my colleague regarding the FSK signaling. I know that the message waiting indicator works on Uniden EZI996 cordless phone.

 

Can you try a different phone to see if the message waiting indicator works or not?

I'm sorry, I cannot try it with another phone because that is the only one I own that has a message light.

barling, Comcast supports FSK for MWI. Can you confirm that Stutter tone works on your phone?

Yes, when I have a message waiting I do hear a stutter tone when I next pick up the phone.  However my phone only supports FSK and the message light is not working.

The message waiting light and the stutter tone are both enabled in the network, and FSK is supported. I will forward your issue to a support team. In the mean time, if you could borrow a phone with message waiting light (any brand), that will speed up the trouble-shooting.

I have borrowed a Uniden DXI4286-2, and the message light functions.  I believe this phone uses FSK signalling, so apparently that isn't the problem.  I have an email into Uniden, but previously they indicated that my phone (CLX475-3) should work with FSK.  Can you think of anything else it could be?

Your phone has an embedded answer machine. Is that right? Leave a voice message to your answer machine rather than the Comcast voicemail to see whether the message light works or not. You can do it by changing the number of rings to let your answer machine answer the call first.

I just got off the phone with Uniden.  The person at Uniden Tech Support with whom I was emailing was incorrect in telling me my phone would support the VMWI with a remote voicemail system.  Apparently it only functions correctly for its own embedded answering machine.  For your records, you might note that the Uniden CLX475 system does not support the VMWI feature with Comcast.  Sorry for all the questions -- looks like I will need to buy a new phone.  Thank you.

It kind of makes sense. They probably don't expect people to buy a phone with a built-in answering machine if they want to use voicemail.

I might have thought the same thing, but on the Uniden site there were specific questions and answers (apparently pertaining to other models) that made me believe that at least some Uniden phones will activate the message light either for the internal answering machine or for voicemail, depending on whether the answering machine is turned on or not.

I have had the same phones, Uniden TRU9466 and TCX905 for about 6 years with Comcast and the message waiting indicator light and stutter tone have always worked fine. Recently I changed my Comcast service (stopped cable TV) and had to re-record my voicemail greeting. Since then, I have no message waiting indicator light and no stutter tone on any phone.
