Move forced change in phone #

Move forced change in phone #

I moved last week and had my services transfered to my new address - an apartment which was right next to my old apartment. I basically moved my service to an adjacent room, and yet when I transferred my voice service I was told that they couldn't transfer the number and I had to get a new phone number.

The process of transfering my services was painful - it seems like a very disconnected and unorganized process. If the end result is that my service works well, I don't have a problem - but having to change a phone number because I moved 5 feet does not make any sense at all. I'd like an explanation as to why this is necessary, because I'm not happy about it.
