Message Waiting Light

Message Waiting Light

My parents kept losing their connection when on a phone conversation.  This would happen several times a week.  A service tech came out to investigate and he claimed that the Caller I.D. untis that they had connected to their phones were "analog" and outdated and not "compatible" with the digital phone.  He suggested to get rid of the Caller I.D. units.  So far, it seems to have worked.  Problem is, my parents forget to pick up the phone to listen for the "stuttering dial tone" for messages.  They are use to looking at the Caller I.D. unit, which had a built-in "message waiting light" to indicate they had new messages.  They do not want to have to go out and buy a new phone with a "message waiting light" built in.  However, they'd like to know if there is anything else that you can hook up to the phone to indicate they have messages.  Weird thing is.....I have the SAME Caller I.D. unit (same make & model) hooked up to my phone and I've never had problems losing connection when on the phone.   Any suggestions???

Re: Message Waiting Light

Stand alone caller ID units are hard to come by these days, as most phones have caller ID built in.

The last one I've seen is the AT&T 436 which is discontinued.  The specs say it has MWI.  Found some on Ebay but that's about the only place.

I am also very suprised that the caller ID units were causing an issue with the phone dropping.
