Does the cable need electricity to power the phone?

I lost my power foor a few days at my house and I recently signed up for the triple play package with cable tv, phone service and internet.  The box that connects all three together needs electricity to power it and I am wondering under circumstances when my place has power outages is there a way to bypass the box and get phone service for directly from the cable line comming into my house??

The eMTA has a battery that should keep it running for about 8 hours if the power goes out.

You can't connect a phone directly to the cable, the eMTA is what translates the cable signals into phone signals.
