Clearing VM once cancelled

We recently cancelled our voicemail but before if could be deactived a message went through.  We went down to our local Comcast and they actived long enough for us to clear the message but we have not been able to clear it.  I was wondering how to clear the message so our phone will stop flashing that we have a message?
