Cannot receive fax

Cannot receive fax

I just added a phone to my services again. For the most part to be able to send and receive faxes. I unplugged the phone and plugged the phone line into my HP All in One Printer. Can send faxes just fine. Cannot receive them. I am assuming that is because of the voice mail. Is that correct? Or is there something else I should be doing?

Re: Cannot receive fax

Either you would set the fax for manual answer and then when the fax call comes in, press the button on the fax to answer it before the voice mail answers.

If it's set to auto answer, the fax must be set for a less number of rings than the voice mail.  If the voice mail is set for 4 rings, then the fax should be set for two rings so it seizes the line before it rolls over to the voice mail.

Re: Cannot receive fax

That fixed the problem. Thanks. Now is there any way to leave the printer hooked to receive faxes and still have the phone hooked up at the same time? It is a little inconvenient to keep hooking and unhooking all the time.

Re: Cannot receive fax

You can certainly add a phone splitter to feed both devices.  Available almost anywhere, K-Mart, Radio Shack, Walgreens, etc.
