Can't break dialtone?

Can't break dialtone?

Help! I had no problem with my digital voice service until 8pm last night. I can not break the dialtone. This is the 2nd time in less than a month this has happened. The first time I was able to chat with tech support, they ran a healthcheck, and were able to fix the problem (basically reset the modem and switched telephone from port 1 to port 2). This time however noone has been able to help me resolve the issue. Now I have to wait another 4 days to have someone come out here and look at it!!!! This is unacceptable. Has anyone had this happen?

Re: Can't break dialtone?

Have you tried pushing the recessed reset button on the rear of the modem ?

Re: Can't break dialtone?

Yes we did a hard reset several times to no avail. Had one tech tell me it was because of the battery in the eMTA unit - um yeah I don't think so - it's plugged into the outlet? Anyway, yes I did that and still the problem remains.

Sometimes the reset switch malfunctions so yes you may need to try removing the battery and also unplugging it from the wall. Remove the ethenet and coax cables as well. Wait five minutes and try again. If still no joy you will need to keep that tech visit to likely have it swapped out.

Re: Can't break dialtone?

Sorry. I tried. It may be a hardware malfunction of some sort with the modem. It may be a system issue. Tech time...

Re: Can't break dialtone?

thanks. Well I've had Comcast for only 5 months so if this is an equipment issue that stinks. Why would the battery be dead in the modem already?? Had no outage issues and I think its an 8 hour life span for the battery?? But the battery light is out on the modem...

Re: Can't break dialtone?

The modem may be a lemon. Spit happens ! The charger may be defective and not charging the battery. Are the contacts clean and tight/correct polarity ? WIW this still would not cause your dial tone issue.

Re: Can't break dialtone?

Yes they are all good. Kind of strange to have a dead battery already but it sure is!

Guess I will have to wait until the tech shows up...tick tock tick tock

Re: Can't break dialtone?

I'm surprised about a four day wait. They typically have better response time for Phone service issues. You should ask for a supervisor intervention !

Re: Can't break dialtone?

Yes that's exactly what I thought as well. 4 days? Their trucks or in the apartment complex constantly and I live about 4 miles away from their office! I'm  so disappointed with Comcast all around. 5 months is 5 months too many!

Re: Can't break dialtone?

Well well it's a MODEM MIRACLE!  They "just happened to have an appt. Thursday, Feb 10th." Amazing!

Thanks! Smiley Happy I guess asking for a supervisor did the trick Smiley Wink
