Can't Call Out

Can't Call Out

Just connected a new DVR to the router and now my VOIP telephones have no dial tone and I cannot call out. When I call myself, I get my voicemail recording and can retrieve my messages. But the phone does not ring. I suspect this is all tied to connecting the new DVR, but I've done this before and connecting my previous DVR did not cause any problems. What did I do wrong?

Hello,

Have you checked your voice preference in xfinity connect webmail to see what your rings are set before it goes to voice mail?

Just for clairification - you have a Comcast all-in-one gateways device that does internet/phone and has a built-in router? Does your internet work?

OP - ignore this, your voicemail settings have nothing to do with you getting a dail tone or not.

Re: Can't Call Out

Ok I'll ask why are you hooking up your DVR to your router? Do you have your phone line plugged into line 1 on the back and not one of the Ethernet ports on the back?

Good point. I thought OP was talking about a third party DVR, but that needs some clarification too.

Re: Can't Call Out

Thank you for your response. I forgot to mention that my internet also is not working so I cannot check my preferences online.

Re: Can't Call Out

Sorry to be so unclear. What I meant was that I installed a wireless DVR so I could stream Netflix. I did not hook up the DVR to the router. The DRV is hooked up to the television.
