Caller ID shows wrong name

When I call someone who is using Comcast phone service the name shows up with the wrong name.

 

Is there any way to find out why Comcast has the wrong name associated with my number?

 

My name is correct with the database that At&T uses.

Yes I have AT&T.

They have checked their database and it is coming up with the correct name.

 

It is only showing up wrong with Comcast customers.

I've contacted the Comcast Corp administrator available on this forum to look into this.

 

Expect some contact from them next week, either on this post or email.

I received a call from the Comcast office and as of today, January 26th they said that the database is being corrected and that the people using Comcast phone service will see my name.

The time frame for this to be activated is between 12 and 24 hrs.

 

Thanks to all who got this fixed in a timely manner.

 

Appreciated the help.

 

I will follow up with the final results.

 

Edit: Made a call to a Comcast phone customer and my shows up.

I, too, have the same problem as the one listed in this blog.  I have an ATT cellphone that suddenly stopped showing the correct name, but only when I call COMCAST Digital Voice Customers.  Is this something you could help me with also?

We have had a similar issue with our daughter a son-in-law's number showing up as another name. They have had this # for over 10 yrs. We subscribe to all three (voice, internet, cable) services. Don't know who provides their phone service.This brings up the question, how often does comcast/xfinity update it's caller ID database?

Not sure how to communicate the information without it showing up in this forum. Please advise.

Hi,

Since I moved in State last June, my Comcast Caller Id shows up as anonymous, or a Dr. Mustfa, etc. This is very difficult for my young son, as no one answers his calls. It's hard to call your friends, when your name doesn't show up on caller I.D.

 

We DO have an unpublished number, (like we did at our old house) and EVERYONE could see our name and number on Caller I.D.

 

I have called numerous times, and a girl today said to try star 87. That isn't even the issue. And when I try *82 it says this service is unavailable on this line.

 

Can someone at Comcast please help?

Do you use XfinityConnect? The Full or Lite version?
Do you use an email client? Which one? (Eg; Windows Live mail, Outlook, a smartphone etc.)
Which browser/version do you use? And- have you cleared your browser cache?
Which operating system? XP, Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X
Details of the problem you are having.

Non - published numbers and caller id blocking are two different services. When you opt for a non-pblished phone number, your phone number and address are not listed in the phone book and are not available through Directory Assistance 411. Called ID per call blocking can be achieved by dialing *67. Per line blocking can be achieved by dialing *82, but based on your post, that feature has not been activated on your account. We can certainly add this feature for you if you'd like to proceed.

I have the same problem at my company. All the other networks show the correct caller ID except for Comcast.

The issue is that Comcast has to pay for an update of current phone numbers. My phone number used to be with my prior company. Now, over 1.5 years later, it is still showing the old company name ONLY when I dial Comcast connected phones. All other phone companies have the corrected, updated phone listing.


Come on guys! I even spent over 1 hour with Comcast discussing this and was promised a fix. That was over 1 year ago......

I also have the same problem, what would be the method to correct this issue. On the caller id it displays the wrong name but this is with T-Mobile service provicer and the name is of the previous owner of the cell phone number that shows up on the caller id. Any help would be appreicated.

CALL Comcast and tell them this is happening to you (inform them of this forum)

Let them know they need to update their Caller ID database, and give them your name and mobile number as you wish for it to appear.

AT&T was supposed to send a form (I helped enlighten AT&T to the process as it made me crazy the last 5 months!!!)

 

My home caller ID through Comcast (Universal Caller ID) appears on my iphone when I have calls to my home line.

I was outsider urgently trying to phone home when I realized I was not me!

No one inside was going to answer, because they have no clue who is calling by the name.....  Not everyone has my # memorized.

 

I just did this today, June 2nd. Comcast is going to touch base with me on the 6th of June, 2011 to see if the problem has been resolved.

Who did you call at Comcast? The 800-COMCAST number and punch around to get to a person dealing with telephone issues? I did this once before. Didn't take.................

I am actually typing with an online customer service representative with Comcast at this very moment. I was told a ticket was already put in [yeah, MONTHS ago]. It has been over a year and the only one that has the old owner's name from my ATT cell phone come up on their caller ID is Comcast. I use them for home phone, tv and internet but am thinking of just switching everything to ATT at this point because I am so frustrated with the lack of assistance in this matter.

We are having the same problem - AT&T cell provider, when calling our home landline (Comcast) the Caller ID name is wrong.

 

AT&T's database is up to date, when I call an AT&T landline the Caller ID is correct - but not on Comcast!

 

This has been going on for more than 2 years...

It is still ATT's issue, their database is not updating to the Targus database.

My issue was resolved by COMCAST, not AT$T. The fact of the matter as a consumer remains that it was a gross disservice- until Comcast fixed it.

Comcast is ducking this problem by trying to blame ATT. Explain to me why all other carriers have my proper caller ID? I have had my cell phone for over 2 years since the switch from my previous employer and they gave me control of the phone number.

 

Let's get with the picture here Comcast. My guess is that they are using the wrong database or a very old one.

A simple explaination here would save people a lot of time and trouble. The issue is not difficult to understand and should have been resolved long ago. I appreciate your help to bring closure to this. It's been only a year + for me......

I called Comcast a few days ago, they said it would be 24-72 hrs - today nothing has been fixed, same old same old.

 

If the caller ID is showing up incorrectly on Comcast's system, then Comcast should work with Targus to make sure the information is correct.  

 

Targus is just a middleman - they apparently have no incentive to run a correct database without someone pushing them.  Since AT&T already has the correct information in their database, and this issue is making Comcast look bad, then Comcast should be the ones pushing Targus to get it right.

 

What am I missing here?

I called ATT and they stated that Comcast needs to update their database thus the info above is not correct. So who to believe?

 

Let me state facts- when I call others NOT on Comcast, my name is correct......Thus it appears this is a Comcast issue.

 

Still awaiting a response with directions.....

I've spoken to two different customer service people at Comcast, and they both said Comcast gets their caller ID info from a 3rd party provider.  One of them confirmed it was Targus.

 

I will be calling Targus first thing Monday morning.

if all other carriers are getting the right caller id when you call then we have to setup a ticket to have our database updated. I can set this up for you if needed.

I am having the same problem.  Just started a few days ago.  We have T-Mobile @home service and have had the same phone # for 13 years with no problems.  All of a sudden, a few days ago, our caller ID started showing "Walmart Supercenter" only when I called Comcast Voice customers.  T-Mobile told me to call Comcast to have them update the Targus database, however when I called Comcast, the rep knew nothing about what I was talking about and told me to call T-Mobile back.....

 

I don't understand how a database can get so screwed up effecting so many people from what I see here.

 

All I'm asking is that the data base be corrected but I can't get any answers!

I did an online chat earlier with a Jenny Fe at Comcast and she gave me a # of 1-800-641-645 (huh, which I just realized she left off a number, how convenient!)  I printed off our conversation so it was not an error on my part in writing it down.  Sorry, thought I could atleast provide a phone #.

Update:  Today I got both an email and a phone call from Michael who is a Executive Customer Care Specialist and he told me that they submitted a correction for the inbound caller ID and also submitted a ticket to have the outbound information corrected with Targus.  He was very pleasant and helpful so hopefully this gets everything corrected.  Still puzzling though because he could offer no explanation as to how it got changed in the first place.
