mtu setting

Could anyone please tell me what modem mtu setting is, for docsis 3.0? And Router, 1500 or 1492 or must i do ping tests to find out so i can match computers to same and stop fragmentation or reduce it? Asked CSR tech. they didn't know what mtu was.

The correct MTU parameter for the Comcast network is 1500.

Using the method on this web page, I find the largest packet I can send is 1472 bytes.

 

 

Should I not set my router's MTU to 1472?

Never mind, I forgot about ping's 28 header bytes. So 1500 looks exactly correct.
