Remote connect to security cam dvr on home network through router

I have a security camera dvr (192.168.1.10), which I've connected with an ethernet cable directly to my router (linksys e1000, 192.168.1.1).  When on my home network, I can successfully connect to the dvr system.

I'd like to set it up for remote viewing (when not on my home network).  instructions mention using port forwarding, so I've logged into my e1000 router to the "port range forwarding" seciton.  I put DVRCam as my Application name, my "start ~ end port" as "80" to "80".  protocal = both, and ip address set to 192.168.1.10, and enabled, and saved.

Then I try to use my 3g connection on my phone to go to my public ip address, which just for security purposes, I should likely not post here.  I keep getting timeouts and messages that indicate that it cannot connect to the IP address.  Is there some other step I might be missing with this.

You can't use port 80, change the settings to something else, I frequently use 1080 or close.

You then add :1080 to the end of the public IP address or domain name if your using one.

Re: Remote connect to security cam dvr on home network through router

Thanks - I changed it to 1080 on my dvr network settings, and changed the router port forwarding range to be 1080-1080.  I still cannot connect, though.

One thing I noticed was that my dvr gateway was showing 192.168.1.254.  My router is at 192.168.1.1, so I changed it to that - still no luck.

Would primary dns and secondary dns ip addresses matter?

I should also add that those pimrary/secondary dns's are set to 168.95.1.1 and 139.175.55.144 respectively, and my DVR network type is set to 'static'.  Those were the defaults when I logged in.
