Domain and Host Names

I just set up my cable modem, and the connection is now fine after re-installing my network adapters.  Now I am trying to hook up my Linksys Router.  I am not getting a connection.  Do I need to enter the host and domain name in the Linksys Router setup?  If so, what are the host and domain names for comcast?

You have to powercycle the modem whenever you change the device that is connected to it.

There is no need to change anything in the router's configuration, it should work right out of the box.

Have you changed any settings in the router ?

Just make sure it is set for automatic configuration DHCP.

If you haven't changed any settings, do this:

Turn off your computer and unplug the router and the modem and wait a few minutes.

Now plug the modem back in and let it fully sync up to Comcast (online light is steadily lit).

Connect an Ethernet cable from the "Internet" port on the modem to the "WAN" port on the router (the one that is by itself).

Now plug the router back in and let it stabilize for a minute or two.

Connect an Ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN ports on the router (usually a group of four ports).

Turn on your computer and you should have connectivity.
