www.plurk.com

www.plurk.com

I am unable to get to a social media site Plurk. plurk.com

I keep getting the following error. I have no problem from my phone data plan or from my work laptop connected to the corporate network via a VPN. Only devices using my xfinity connection without VPN are affected. I have reset DNS cache on my desktop, but that still has not helped.

My phone connects if I use the dataplan, but fails if I use wifi through the xfinity router.

Error 1001 Ray ID: 21773e6228c70c3b • 2015-08-17 17:54:21 UTC DNS resolution error
What happened?

You've requested a page on a website (www.plurk.com) that is on the CloudFlare network. CloudFlare is currently unable to resolve your requested domain (www.plurk.com). There are two potential causes of this:

  • Most likely: if the owner just signed up for CloudFlare it can take a few minutes for the website's information to be distributed to our global network.
  • Less likely: something is wrong with this site's configuration. Usually this happens when accounts have been signed up with a partner organization (e.g., a hosting provider) and the provider's DNS fails.

As a work-around and test, try using Google's public DNS server offerings. 8.8.8.8 primary and 8.8.4.4 secondary.

Re: www.plurk.com

That site does not appear to be working. Not a Comcast problem.

Re: www.plurk.com

The site DOES work from multiple sources and I have communicated with othes on the social media site. It was down for many and this may be an issue with Comcast DNS servers not getting updated information.

It IS up and working.

I just checked this URL and it is down...   http://www.websitedown.info/

Just checked again and it is back up....  the website is experiencing issues...

I did not use Comcast DNS to check this...

Re: www.plurk.com

It is up and accessable via any of my connections that bypass comcast DNS lookup.

I guess I will be stuck with my phone data plan until comcast or the service resolves the DNS issues.

Re: www.plurk.com

Thank you. That solved the issue for my iMac. No other wifi connected device will get this update though. I know that the Plurk service was making changes over the weekend and I am not the only one who has had trouble.

I think they were scaling up and messed up with the IP distribution.

Re: www.plurk.com

Did you change them in the iMac's *connection properties* dialog ? Are you not using a router that has a manually configurable DNS option ?

Re: www.plurk.com

I changed in the Mac System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> add DNS.

I have looked at my Xfinity router via 10.0.0.1 but do not see where I could change the DNS on the router / gateway itself.

Re: www.plurk.com

Unfortuately that is one of the missing features (among others...) with the firmware loads in these Comcast supplied combo gateway devices..

Very true. Saving us from clicking the wrong thing. I will verify the other connections at a later date.
