server emails vanish ????

server emails vanish ????

I have 3 email accounts and I have set in preferences that emails should NEVER be deleted from server for all 3, unless I delete them myself. On 2 of my address's, all emails are being kept as directed (never delete) On my primary email address, I have re-set the preferences settings 3 times with Comcast phone support, and still my emails do not show up for long, maybe a day or 2 and then they vanish!!! I have checked and reset 3 times...............any other suggestions?

Please help!!

Re: server emails vanish ????

Do you have the problem account set up on a smartphone or tablet?  Or in an email client on a computer?  If so, the settings in any of those will override the Comcast preferences.

Re: server emails vanish ????

Well, I noticed my home computer's incoming server settings were set to POP3 for all 3 of my email accounts, and my cell phone was set to IMAP. I changed the cellphone from IMAP to POP3 so all devices would be set to POP3. Like you said, there might be some conflicts otherwise. I did notice on my cell phone, that when I re-set to POP3, that I was given a chance to check a box that said, "never delete emails from server". I had never seen that option when it was set to IMAP. So far, so good. I will check everything the end of next week to see if all those emails starting about Sept. 1st, will still be on my Comcast server. I am keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Thanks Much,

Re: server emails vanish ????

The reason you didn't have that option in IMAP is because IMAP keeps the original message on the server, and you only see copies when you look at your mail on the phone or the desktop.  In IMAP everything is synced, including any local folders you created.  POP3 by default was designed to download the messages to your computer and then delete them from the server.  You can usually tell it to leave a copy on the server, but it only works on the Inbox.  Nothing else is synced.  This guy explains it nicely---------------
