reestablish lost e-mail

At end of Feb my e-mail inbox showed that I had 47 unread e-mails; I experienced connectivity problems via Internet Explorer, so worked with Comcast to use Google Chrome.  When finally able to connect with Comcast, my inbox showed only 6 unread e-mails.  Now, Comcast support tech at Security Assurance tells me that those "lost" e-mails are not retrieveable.  There are contractual documents contained in those that are gone, so how do I get them back into my inbox?
