is there a way to mark an outgoing email message so that you receive some sort of notification when the receiver opens the message?

Not if using Xfinity Connect.  The notification feature is available with most other email programs tho.

Do know, it is still always up to the recepient to allow the receipt to be sent or not.

Do you use XfinityConnect? The Full or Lite version?
Do you use an email client? Which one? (Eg; Windows Live mail, Outlook, a smartphone etc.)
Which browser/version do you use? And- have you cleared your browser cache?
Which operating system? XP, Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X
Details of the problem you are having.
