n my e-mail preferences I have marked my unread and read e-mail to never be deleted but it won't keep anything longer than 30 days;  it used to keep it indefinitely but no longer does so.    Is there a fix ?

1- I would change the settings, Thrn close and re-open Preferences.

2- Now click your browser cache and close the browser


Then sign back in to Inbox>Preferences>Email and change tgevsetting back to never.
