comcast.net email address cannot be used as the alternate email address.

Trying to add an alternate email address. Xfinity gives me a red message: comcast.net email address cannot be used as the alternate email address.

Exactly what does that mean? Any help? Thanks.

Re: comcast.net email address cannot be used as the alternate email address.

The idea of an alternate email address is to have a second address where Comcast can contact you if they are unable to reach you using your primary Comcast address. If you tried to use your Primary address as an alternate on the same account, then the error makes sense...if you tried to use a different (one of your secondary account) @comcast.net address as the alternate on your Primary account, it may be that Comcast want you to use an address outside of their mail system, i.e a GMail or Yahoo, etc...address.
