how do i attache a file

If you are still in the old email format, you click on "Attach" in the toolbar on the Compose page when writing a new email.  Then navigate to the file you want on your computer and follow the prompts to add it to the message.  If you are in the new format, on the Compose page click on "Attachments" below the Subject line, then again navigate to the file in your computer and follow the prompts.

thank you for your answer.  While in  composing  how do I preview the attachment prior to sending.

I click on the attachment and only the fil name comes up.

Are you in the new format or the old one?  Look at the URL in the address bar:  if it says Zimbra you still have the old one.  If it says Appsuite you are in the newe one.
