Windows 10 "mailto" Firefox 51 Email Link...

Windows 10 "mailto" Firefox 51 Email Link...

Using Windows 10. Firefox 51.  Xfinity webmail.

Comcast email is selected as the Windows 10 default mail.

I can not email a link to the page I want to send

someone.

I click "Email Link" off the Firefox "File" menu and

The webmail interface with a compose screen and

the link entered does not open like it should.

All that happens is a Tab opens up with the HomePage

of Xfinity user interface( Iam and was already signed into Xfinity).

The "mailto" is obviously not working properly with Xfinity

and Windows 10.  Yes, in "about:config", mailto is set to Comcast.

Anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks

I believe you need an email client to do that. Firefox has an add-on that works with webmails, but only for clicking on mailto links. I tried it but it didn't seem to work right for me. When I email links, I copy and paste them.

rightfooted is correct.  You need to use a desktop email client like Mozilla Thunderbird, MS Outlook, Mac Mail, Windows Mail or some other.  Webmail programs like Comcast won't work for mailto: links by themselves.  Gmail seems to be a notable exception, although I've not tried it myself.

@Latoque, this is strange. I received the email notifying me of your post. When I clicked on the link in the email, instead of being taken to the post, it opened a compose email, with the title of the thread in the To box. I wonder if the word mailto in the subject has something to do with it. I do have the add-on I mentioned, but it's been disabled and still is.

No, you don't need an email client to do this.

On another machine I am using this addon in Firefox 47

to "Email Link..." for Yahoo Webmail.  Works perfect.

Opens Yahoo Mail Tab with compose and Link right there

ready to email.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/send-to-mail/?src=search

I know it works for Yahoo.  Supposedly it also works

for Gmail, Hotmail, etc. according to the documentation.

Problem is, my wife uses Xfinity Webmail and Firefox 51

and Firefox 51 won't let me download this addon.  So I can't

test to see if it works for Xfinity Webmail on Firefox.

That's why I was asking if someone had a method to

"Email Link..."  for xfinity and Firefox.

We certainly should have the ability to do this.

The "mailto" I was refering to is a webmail handler that needs to

be in place in the Firefox code section(about:config) to make this

work, from the research I have done.

Thanks

No it's not you.  I get the same thing when I click on that link in the email notification.  It must be a forum glitch because other links are doing that.  Go figure.

Re: Windows 10 "mailto" Firefox 51 Email Link...

I think the reason the previous add-on I mentioned, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/mailtowebmails/, didn't work is because it's set up to open the old email version.

On the add-on's page, the developer says, "If there is the a webmail service you use, and need help finding the "wildcard compose url", send this email to the support team, they will reply back with the information, which you can plug into this addon.

Hi Support Team,
I was looking for the "Wildcard Compose URL" for your webmail service. For example Hotmail wildcard url is: "https://mail.live.com/secure/start?action=compose&to=%s", where the "%s" is where the clicked on email address gets populated. For instance when I click on a mail link of "mailto:blah@hotmail.com" it should navigate to "https://mail.live.com/secure/start?action=compose&to=mailto:blah@hotmail.com".

Other webmail services like Yahoo Mail, Gmail, and AOL Mail provide these wildcard URLs, can you please share with me a wildcard url that will work with your webmail service?"

Can someone on the forum provide this URL? I have the add-on and can try it to see if it works.
