Update modem

In mid January I received an email from NETGEAR telling me I should update my router's firmware.  Is this a legitimate email?  I've recently had to unplug my router so shouldn't any new updates have come from Comcast when I powered up?

Put you cursor over the email address and does it look correct?

Did you give them your email address?

Also do not click on any link in the email. Anytime you get this type of email, go directly to the Modem/Router's website and look for any updates for your model. If still not sure, contact them.

You should be able to update your router's frimware from the router's own adminstration page -

Not if it is a Netgear gateway device. Which is why I asked the OP for the model number..
