I continue to put certain emails in spam yet I still receive them.  Why is that?

Spammers keep changing the email addresses they send from, among other things, and it makes it hard for the filters to keep up.  The filters are "trained" as to what is spam over time, by user input.  So when enough people mark something as spam it will get snagged by the filters.  It takes time to do that.  You should find these two short articles of interest---------------------
