Sorting e-mails in alphabetical order

When I sort my e-mails in the From format they are not listed alphabetically like they were before.  Any solutions?

Re: Sorting e-mails in alphabetical order

How are they listed?  Are you on the old format or the new one?

Re: Sorting e-mails in alphabetical order

I'm in the new e-mail format.  When I sort it in the From mode...it starts with the A's, B's, C's, R's, D's, T's and so on mixed up and in some cases I'll find a letter repeated.  It's definitely not in alpabetical order.

Mine aren't either. It's incorrectly sorting From alphabetically by email address. It supposed to sort using the name that appears in the From column. That's how it was with the old format.

I have Version: 7.8.2-3.1.0-5.

Re: Sorting e-mails in alphabetical order

It is an interesting phenomenon.  Looking at the sorting options it appears you have to have either ascending or descending checked in addition to any other criteria.  My guess is that's why the alphabetical order is skewed.

Re: Sorting e-mails in alphabetical order

I have mine set to sort From & Ascending. Allison should come before BB&T using the names. I can see the email addresses when I hover over the names. BB&T's email address begins with "alerts@," which alphabetically comes before "allison@." It's programmed to sort by email address rather than the name that appears in the From column. All of my emails that are out of place are for the same reason.

Re: Sorting e-mails in alphabetical order

Another example is Forum update emails. The From line reads:

From: Community Mailer <forums@alerts.xfinity.com>

Webmail displays the message as coming from "Community Mailer", but it dosn't appear under the letter "C". It is sorted as though it began with the letter "F" because the email address is "forums@alerts.xfinity.com".

It would be nice it they'd fix this! They should be sorting on what they display.
