Setting up Outlook.com to connect to Comcast Email via POP failing.

Frequent Visitor

Setting up Outlook.com to connect to Comcast Email via POP failing.

I am working on trying to get my comcast email account into outlook.com via pop.  When I try to set up the SMTP part, I get this error message:  There's a problem connecting to the SMTP mail server.

Is this a know issue or is Comcast doing it by design?  I have made sure I am using the correct port and login, still no luck.

Re: Setting up Outlook.com to connect to Comcast Email via POP failing.

I checked my hotmail account [outlook.com] and it looks as though you have to set this up as an IMAP account and not a POP account.  Plus it says that Outlook.com will check for you.  But, here are the settings for IMAP:

Incoming server: imap.comcast.net
Outgoing server: smtp.comcast.net
Authentication ON

Incoming Port: 993 with SSL ON
Outgoing Port:
465 with SSL ON

Re: Setting up Outlook.com to connect to Comcast Email via POP failing.

Thank you for repsonding.  Outlook.com doesn't support imap when connecting to other services.  POP works for inbound but not outbound no matter what port or SSL option I try.

This smells like its activly being blocked somewhere.  Someone wanna try it themselves and tell me if it worked? Smiley Happy

Re: Setting up Outlook.com to connect to Comcast Email via POP failing.

I did try it, and it did import a few emails, but not all.  Outlook.com does support Comcast's IMAP settings, but apparently not like it should.  This isn't unusual for Microsoft/Outlook.  I would gather that using an email client like Windows Live Mail is not an option for you?

Re: Setting up Outlook.com to connect to Comcast Email via POP failing.

I am trying to keep my email in the cloud. Can you provide the steps or details about what you had set up?

Here are the details about what I have.

Non working SMTP info: Outgoing (SMTP) server information Specify SMTP server information your email provider has given you. Server address Port 465 Requires a secure connection (SSL/TLS)

Working pop info: Incoming (POP3) server information Specify POP3 server information your email provider has given you. Server address Port 995 Requires a secure connection (SSL) Leave a copy of messages on the server

Re: Setting up Outlook.com to connect to Comcast Email via POP failing.

I started with IMAP.

Changing over to POP3 I couldn't get the SMTP server recognized on either 587 or 465, so I allowed outgoing mail to use the Outlook.com outgoing server.
