POP3 & IMAP servers time out

POP3 & IMAP servers time out

Unable to access Xfinity mail through Outlook, Windows Live Mail, or Windows Mail app. Both POP3 and IMAP generate server timeout errors and have been since at least 9/8/17. Verified that POP3 and IMAP settings are correct.

 

POP3 error message

Unable to send or receive messages for the xxxx account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection.
Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

Server: 'mail.comcast.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: POP3
Port: 993
Secure(SSL): Yes

Solved the problem - it was a conflict with my firewall software.

 POP3 uses port 995, not 993.  Please see https://www.xfinity.com/support/internet/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email/.

Solved the problem - it was a conflict with my firewall software.
