One of many new xfinity email issues - Read/UNread

Need resolution for xfinity email issue. No option for this appears in settings. Spent over half hour on live chat with useless xfinity  rep. Rep assured that problem would be fixed after sync, sign out and restart.

It is NOT fixed still.

Problem: in inbox list of emails, email message automatically marks as READ when selected. That is xfinity failure. I want this fixed, so that ONLY when email is DOUBLE-clicked to open, ONLY then it is marked as READ. Otherwise it is to remain marked UNread.

If you click on the message in the list and open it, the default is that it is marked as read.  You cannot change that.  If you want to select the message for doing something other than reading it, just click the checkbox to the left of the message in the list.  The message will be selected, but not opened.

Pay attention, whould you.  Messages get selected for a number of reasons, e.g. when you delete or spam one next to it, or if you want to read it in preview pane.  Proper email programs will not mark it as read, or give you an option to select how you want.  If you don't know, don't answer.
