Mac Malware

If a stranger calls you on the phone and tells you to burn your house down and you do it, who are you going to blame?

 

This malware is nothing but people being tricked into installing bad software on their computer.

 

It isn't a virus. It is not going to download and install itself.

 

No magic "anti virus" tool will prevent people from being tricked.

 

It's called social engineering.

FWIW...charvey was just alerting people to the fact this thing is around, nothing wrong with that IMHO.

(and actually if it gets on your computer, it is malware)

I've seen the comment re: don't use your ADMIN login as your working login. I think I see why, but have already done it.

 

Can I create a new user at this point given ADMIN rights and then remove admin rights from my current ID?

I believe that will work. Haven't done it myself because we've always had separate admin accounts that we use only for administration.
