Keep Comcast Email, but Leaving Comcast?

Keep Comcast Email, but Leaving Comcast?

Probably not the most popular question or one that Comcast wants to hear/publicly announce, but my understanding as of June 30th, 2016 is that you can now keep your Comcast email address even IF you disconnect your Comcast service.  I know in the past you could not, but apparently Comcast made a change and now allows you to keep one main email address if you leave their service.  Can someone verify this?

So officially as of 04/12/16 Comcast will allow customers to keep their email address and service even if they discontinue or downgrade their XFINITY services. Former XFINITY Internet or Voice customer can still use their Comcast.net email address if they log into their account in the 90 days prior to disconnecting their service. Their email account will remain active as long as they access it at least once every nine months. Just like their primary email account, their secondary email accounts must also be accessed in the 90 days prior to disconnecting service in order to continue to use their Comcast email account. If both accounts were accessed, they can continue to use both Comcast.net email addresses as usual.

After a customer disconnects or downgrades their service, they can still access their email account via the methods below:

XFINITY Connect (online on your laptop or PC).

The XFINITY Connect app.

Third‐party email applications (smartphones, tablets, etc.).

After customers disconnect or downgrade their service, they will still have access to the following email

features:

Calendar.

Address book.

Managing settings and preferences within My Account.

Deactivating email accounts.

Changing an existing email address.

However, they will no longer have access to the following features:

Adding new email account(s).

Viewing Voice and Text Messaging tabs within XFINITY Connect or the XFINITY Connect app.

Re: Keep Comcast Email, but Leaving Comcast?

Hi Latoque,

I just need some clarification on the access statement "log into their account in the 90 days prior to disconnecting their service. Their email account will remain active as long as they access it at least once every nine months".  Does this mean to sign into my Comcast account and then "access" Email?  Or, if I receive email via the comcast servers to my Verizion wireless account does that count as    accessing my email?  I am moving to an area that does not have Comcast as a cable provider.  I therefore need to set up a new Internet access account with the new provider.  I would love to be able to keep my comcast.net email address to avoid the hassels of setting up a new email account.  Currently I read 99% of my email on my iPhone via my Verizion wireless. So, my email goes to the comcast mail servers and then is passed to the verizion mail servers that sends the email out to my verizion email account.

Re: Keep Comcast Email, but Leaving Comcast?

Your Comcast account IS the email account, because it's part of a paid susbscription and it doesn't expire as long as you are a paying customer.  Once you discontinue service, it will become a straight-up webmail account just like if you have one with Yahoo or Gmail or some other.  All you need to do to keep it active is sign into it as described in my post above.  That is very common with  free webmail accounts-----most of them have a provision that if you don't sign into it after a certain time spam-----typically 6 months to a year---------they view the account as abandonned, and it can be locked, suspended or deleted.  That is one advantage of using a desktop email client.  They keep you signed into your accounts.  But as long as you keep using the account you shouldn't have a problem.

It doesn't matter how you access it, as long as you sign in at least once every 9 months after you leave Comcast.

Re: Keep Comcast Email, but Leaving Comcast?

Hello!

Just a quick query on this topic. After I cancel Comcast (not available where I am moving) can I still have mail to (name)@comcast.net forwarded to my new primary email (whatever it will be)? I take it I will no longer be able to access it through Outlook?

Thanks!!!

Re: Keep Comcast Email, but Leaving Comcast?

You should be able to forward to another email address, and yes you can still use Outlook, or any other desktop email client.
