Like many other internet service providers, Comcast is trying to get their customers to use two factor authentication for security reasons.  That involves you providing an alternate method for them to contact you in the event your account becomes compromised.  Because if it happens, and you don't have an altenate method in place;   they can't send you a password reset or a code in a text message.  There are many free email accounts out there from Yahoo, Outlook.com, Gmail, Mail.com and many others you can sign up for.  In this day and age, if you are going to do internet and email, you need two email accounts from different providers as a bare minumum.
