Delivery was aborted

I am getting 300 of these emails a day! I don't send or receive 300 emails, it doesn't seem to be prompted by anything. What's happening?!

Re: Delivery was aborted

Your email  account may be either compromised or it's being "spoofed".  First, check your Sent folder to see if there is anything in there you didn't send yourself.  If there are any, immediately change your password and secret question and answer.  What you are seeing are bounces from junk emails being sent to email addresses that are no good for one reason or another.  A spammer or hacker has got hold of your email address, possibly the account itself, and is using it to send junk mail to entire lists of addresses.  Some of them are bound to be invalid, ergo the bounces.  Run a complete scan of your machine with your A/V software to see if it finds anything amiss.

If your address is only being spoofed, it means that it's being used to send out spam, but the account itself hasn't been compromised.  A spammer can make emails look like they are coming from your account even when they aren't.  If this is what's going on there is little you can do but wait it out.  Spammers will usually use an address for a week or two and then move on to annoy someone else.
