Delete previous emails in new message

I compose a message in email and then try to delete the previous chain of emails. Then, EVERYTHING goes away including the message I just composed.  Very frustrating!!  Is there a way to delete the previous chain of emails without erasing the newly composed message.

I just tried and selected the messages that appear when I reply to an email.  I deleted them and only my new typing was left.  Try using a different browser and see if the same thing happens.

 

Also, if you want to avoid this situation in the first place, on the Inbox page click on the gear icon in the upper right corner, then on Settings.  Under Mail settings>>>>>>>>>>Compose, you will see the option to include previous messages when replying.  Uncheck that box.  That way the earlier messages should not appear when you reply to an email.
