Can receive Email but cannot send with Apple Mail v8.0 using smtp.comcast.net

Can receive Email but cannot send with Apple Mail v8.0 using smtp.comcast.net

I can receive but not send on smtp.comcast.net with Apple Mail v.8.0. I get the message, "The SMTP connection to server “smtp.comcast.net” failed".

I am running Mac OS 10.10, Yosemite, on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013).

Problem started sporatically 4-5 days ago and is now, pretty much, constant.

The problem first encountered at my home location in Dartmouth, MA,and continued at Logan Airport and in Seattle, WA.

The problem seems specifc to Apple Mail; I am able to send using Thunderbird.

All settings are correct and unchanged.

Help,

          Tom

So it was working, you didn't change your password, and now it doesn't work? Is it always failing or only sometimes?

If it's only sometimes failing, put up with it for a while.

If it is always failing, in Mail, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and click on your Comcast account.

Under Outgoing Mail server, in the pop-up choose Edit SMTP server.

Choose the Advanced tab and choose the smtp.comcast.net server in the panel at the top.

Are you using the default ports? Choose "Use custom port" and 465. Make sure you have SSL checked and password authentication. Choose OK.
