Backup Info in case I get locked out of my email account

Backup Info in case I get locked out of my email account

Ok.  This is the situation.  I have two email accounts, business and personal.  I've already entered the cell# and email address for the business email.  For whatever reason(???)  I cannot use the same information for my personal email.  1) I'm not going to get yet another non-comcast email to use as a backup account, 2)  I'm not going to get another cellphone to use as a backup in case I get locked out of my email account.  So that's the situation.  Why is it not fesible to use the same info for more than one comcast email account????????

Re: Backup Info in case I get locked out of my email account

The original intent of the secondary accounts was so that different people in the same household could have their own email account.  That's why you can't use the same phone number for more than one of them.  It's also about security.  Using the same recovery information for more than one account means that if one of them gets compromised, they are all on the block, same as using the same password for more than one account.  You can use another email address instead, but it has to be a non-Comcast account, and one that's not already being used for one of the other secondary accounts.  More and more online account providers are going to the two-factor authentication process.  It is rapidly becoming the new normal.

There are plenty of free email providers out there.  I currently have 10 or 11 myself, from Comcast, Yahoo, MSN (Outlook.com), Gmail, iCloud and Mail.com.  And there are plenty more too.

Re: Backup Info in case I get locked out of my email account

So you have 10 email accounts good for you.  I never check the backup email account that I created and currently use for the first account.  So for all I know I could be locked out of that account because I don't use it.  This still doesn't address my question.  Why can't I use the same info for two different accounts???  So presently if for some reason I get locked out of my personal account I guess I'll have to create yet another Comcast email account.  I'll suffer the consequences if something happens because I used the same email and cellphone number for two accounts.

I did address your question;  using the same 2nd factor for more than one account is a recipe for disaster.  It's right up there with using the same password for more than one account.  If you still want only two email accounts, I can only suggest that you sign up for one with another provider, and keep it current.  That way you would have the second verification factor for another Comcast account.
