Yes you can.  First you need to save your Outlook Contacts as a csv file.  Save it where you can locate it easily.

Do you currently have Comcast Smartzone, or have you already been siwtched to the new XfinityConnect?

i will assume at this point you have Smartzone:

Open Smartzone and click on Preferencces, then click on Address book on the left side.  A window opens showing you Import/Export.  go to Import, follow the steps from there.

If you need further help, do post back.

Patti,

Are you saying you want to copy your Outlook contacts that are in Outlook on ONE PC, and want export them to another PC with Outlook?  OR, you want to have your contacts available in Smartzone on another computer, signed on with the same username?  OR?

You Smartzone address book is on the Comcast server- It doesn't matter which PC you use to access it.

Try to explain again and I will try harder to understand what it is you want to do.

Re: transferring outlook contacts to comcast

Pattti,

Going back to my first post-

In Outlook Express, you need to export the contacts as a csv file & save it.

Open OE and click on File- then click on Export-Address book.  A window opens, choose Text File (Comma Separated Value/CSV and click on export.  Another window opens where you browse to where you want to save the file.  Follow the steps from there to get the copy off the contacts.  Now- Since you want it on a different PC, you need to use either a CD or a thumbdrive, and save the file to it.

Once it is on the CD/thumbdrive, you can copy the file on to the new PC.

After that, follow the steps outlined in my first post.

The other option you have is to use Plaxo: See this clickable link

Re: transferring outlook contacts to comcast

I would like to transfer Outlook contacts to Comcast.  I see your answer, but I am already on Infinity.  Previous searches talked about Plaxco, which implies having another Tool Bar...and I don't want another one.  So-o-o, the question is, Can I export Outllook Contacts to Infinity as easily as you show going to Smartzone?

You can follow Carole's instructions to export your Outlook contacts to a .CSV file. Then to import them, do this:

1.) Temporarily switch to Xfinity Connect Lite:

     click Preferences / General
under "XFINITY Connect Version" select "Xfinity Connect Lite"
     click Save
log out and back in again

2.) Import contacts to Xfinity Connect Lite:

click Address Book / click Edit near Contacts folder / Import from CSV / Browse to file / Import.

3.) Switch back to the regular Xfinity Connect:

     click Preferences
under "XFINITY Connect Version" select "Xfinity Connect"
     click Save
log out and back in again

You might want to try this with just a few contacts until you verify that it works correctly.

Please let us know how it goes.

You're welcome. Looks like I need to add "wait a few minutes" after the import step.

Bruce,

FYI-I have noticed this delay myself- In both Full & Lite even when adding a contact to the address book.  I think this has been going on since XfinityConnect was introduced tho.

Re: transferring outlook contacts to comcast

Bruce, you are a GEM!   Thank You, Thank You.

It took me a little time trying to figure out how to copy the Contacts out of Outlook, but finally did.  And YES, you have to wait a while minutes!!!  for the import on the Infinity end.

Again.  Thanx to you and to Carol, as well.

Re: transferring outlook contacts to comcast

I imported the contacts file from Outlook to Xfinity but did not receive any mailing addresses.  Any thoughts on where it got dropped?

Whicvh version of XfinityConnect are you using?  Try clicking on preferences and switch to the Lite version if currently using the Full version.  The close and reopen XfinityConnect.  Do you see your contacts in the LITE address book?  If yes, now switch back to the Full version and see if they are there.

Also note there is a 'delay' from the time you import into XfinjityConnect and when they appear inj ther address book.

Post back the results please.

I tried switching to xfinity lite, no change.  How do you check what version of xfinity you are on?

When you click on Preferences, it will open in the General tab and you will see this below:  Look to see which box is ticked.  Change to Lite and click on SAVE at the top of the page to save changes.  now close XfinityConnect, and reopen... You should be in Lite.  now import the address book from the Lite version.

Check the first line of your CSV file. It needs to contain the names of the fields you're importing in the sequence they appear in the file. For example, if your file consists of

first name, last name, email address

then the first line of the file should read

    "firstName","lastName","email"

I don't know of a reference for the field names. To find out what they are, do an export to a test CSV file from Xfinity Connect Lite.

Re: transferring outlook contacts to comcast

Bruce,

I exported the address file in .csv format and compared the two files, import and export.  Looked at the titles and they both match but the export file from xfinity does not have any addresses (street, city, state) etc.

Not sure whats happening.  Any ideas?

Larry

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Are you saying that your import file has address info that isn't loading into Xfinity Connect Lite? Or that you have address info in Xfinity Connect Lite that doesn't appear when you export it?

Here's an example I exported from Xfinity Connect Lite and then imported, and both import and export seemed to work OK. On the Edit Contact screen the data looks like this:

        Last: Smith
First: Bill
File As: First Last
Home Address: 101 E Maple St
Anytown US 10001
Email: BillSmith@isp.com

Here's what the file looks like:

    "email","fileAs","firstName","homeAddress","lastName"
    "BillSmith@isp.com","2","Bill","101 E Maple St
    Anytown US 10001","Smith"

Notice that even though there's only one contact, it takes up two lines because of the line break between the street address and the city name.

Please let me know if any of that helps.

I am saying that the import file has address info that isn't loading into xfinity connect lite.  I checked the headings on both Outlook and Xfinity Connect Lite and they are both the same.
