Replacing Comcast Modem and I have Xfinity Home

Replacing Comcast Modem and I have Xfinity Home

I've read the posts that if I replace the Comcast modem/gateway and I have Xfinity home that I need to have a tech install a Netgear router. I don't understand how the Netgear router for the alarm system connects to my personal network. Does my personal modem get assigned two IP Addresses? An Ip address for my router/wifi and another IP for the Netgear Alarm router? I've seen posts about the Netgear router only being a router and not a modem so is it just providing Wifi to the alarm system? I need to understand how this router will get connected to my personal equipment once I eliminate the Xfinity gateway from my network.

It is a tech installed Netgear router, attached by Ethernet cord to a port out of your personal router, that’s all there is to it.
