My modem is registered to another account!

I purchased my own modem back in Feb. 2016 and called to get it set up and the internet has been working fine since. recently I tried to use the xfinity stream app after I have TV service from Xfinity and it said I needed to be on my home network when I was. 

After some investigating, The tech said that my modem was already registered to another account and they couldn't update it and I needed to take my modem in to a service center.

I went to the service center and was told that they couldn't make the change and I needed to use one of 'their' modems! 

How do I get this fixed?
