The guide data is supplied by TVGuide, so it comes from them.

Those ratings, and especially the descriptions, can be funny. In a local newspaper, the movie critic noted how many 2-star movies often had descriptions that made it sounds like a great movie.

I don't know who does the ratings on comcast, but it's laughable.Seeing movies like the social network and 127 hours getting 4 stars, while true masterpieces like the shining and full metal jacket get 3 stars? It's embarrassing for comcast, they need to change that.

Just to clarify, the guide data (descriptions and star ratings) that Comcast and most all North American cable providers use comes from Rovi.

Rovi company website: http://www.rovicorp.com/company/about/profile.htm

Rovi wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rovi_Corporation

Re: Who does the star ratings for the movies on Comcast?

The ratings and the description on each film need to be re-examined.  I think a 5 star system is needed for films such as "The Godfather", "Titanic", "Streetcar Named Desire", "Amadeus", etc.  I recently saw the movie "Ted" which was rated 4 stars...really?  Someone was "hitting the sauce" on that one!
