Weather Scan Channel

ANSWERED

Re: Weather Scan Channel Going Away????

I called local Comcast and registered a complaint. This is NOT the same as just calling and complaining to a CSR. To FILE a complaint, they tag it with your customer ID. I've been a Comcast customer since they came to Denver and its always been the same: Great customer service but mediocre service. It's a d*mn shame the US government allows cable companies to monopolize a territory. Comcast claims to have the fastest internet, bu the US doesn't even rank in the top 10 fastest internet countries in the world. What BS.

I think you can contact Tom Karinshak by putting that name in the search box at comcast.com.

Scroll to the bottom of that page click Send Tom Feedback.

I think you can search at Comcast.com the name Tom Karinshak. Click on the first offering Hear from Tom Karinshak.  If you scroll to the bottom of the page you can click on Send Tom Feedback.

It is the only place I could find to write out a complaint.  I don't know if it will help but I hope so.

Re: Weather Scan Channel Going Away????

I plan on using the form to complain AND call and register a complaint as well.  For those who are considering cancelling their service, ask for a retention specialist and they will listen to you better than the regular customer service.  My wife did this earlier this year when she had some issues with her mother's account, i.e. raised her bill.  However it probably won't get the same results but it is worth trying.  We need to let Comcast know how much we like Weatherscan and don't want to have it taken away.   Bring back Weatherscan!

Re: Weatherscan

jbkidd, at least you had a choice!

This wouldn't have happened in Silicon Valley.  Cable carriers share the same fiber-optic cable, the cable box is the only difference.  And, Silicon Valley's public Wifi is free too!  Time for a grass-roots Constitutional Amendment to rain these tyrants in, once and for all.  Put all Cable companies under the FCC... cable and the Internet IS a public utility!

Re: Where is Weather Channel 101 (Seattle area)?

Hello all,

I contacted Comcast support on Friday 6/13 (I am in Seattle area) and after checking some things, the help desk agent told me that our "channel 101" (Weatherscan) is still part of the channel lineup and he escalated the ticket to next support tier to address and call me back by Monday. However, this good news was likely short-lived based on posts in this forum and the escalation agent probably knows more than the front-line person does about this. I don't like to complain about how Comcast keeps removing traditional offerings with no customer review prior to decisions based on their own contractual issues with providers. I also feel like we pay too much for a shrinking amount of QUALITY free movies and it seems that non-English channels are added at the expense of traditional choices. I am not bashing language choices, but if the Spanish speaking audience is growing then ADD choices not TRADE. Also, Comcast is really poor in Seattle for Chinese language choices, as they refuse to offer their custom programming (as done for San Francisco and New York, for example) in Seattle due to "lack of audience", which is not true. For now, how can we get a simple Weather choice back? I don't like our "Channel 352" as it has commercials, too much hosted talking and only 10 minutes of local weather every half hour. Very disappointing.

WeatherScan - Channel 127

Has the WeatherScan channel been moved to another Channel location, rather then 127?  Please don't delete this very useful service, if that indeed has happened.  In fact, please let us know how to get it back.  Is a trade off possible?  Will do without all of the shopping and religious  channels gladly in exchange for this basic "reality" channel.  Thank you.

Here is part of a legalistic document sent in response to my Tom Karinshak feedback:.....

"There are a few alternatives that are available to customers

  • The Weather Channel is still available and provides localized weather every ten minutes on Local on the 8's. We are also in the process of launching the localized Weather Channel Feed in HD across all markets
  • There is a weather app available to customers with the X1 platform - Check Weather using the X1 Weather App can be emailed to customers
  • We have also found that most of our customers access this information through their mobile devices and the Internet"

Same canned 'official' response as the comcast employee left on thread.  Interpretted as "upgrade to Xfinity X1 and Internet" which means customers pay more to get what they had.  The Weather Channel on the 8's doesn't not provide live radar in my area, just text.

Again, how does this benefit customer?

Good point.  And you can't "upgrade" to the X1 DVR with buying into their triple play option.  So even if you pop for the DVR, do you get Weather Scan?   I think the app that Comcast is referencing is like a Accuweather widget I run on my workstation.

Re: Weather Scan Channel Going Away????

The local weather scan was the best channel for getting local weather now, not whenever The Weather Channel decides to give you a local feed.  TWC is a worthless channel and like earlier posts stated is NOT an alternative.  I live in eastern WA and want my local weather channel back!!! Not everyone out there has computers or smartphones to get nstant weather info. Thanks Comcast for yet another disappointment.

Re: Weather Scan Channel Going Away????

Here's the reply I got. If thousands of people do this perhaps Comcast/Xfinity will listen.

Dear Mr. Jensen,

Thank you for contacting the Office of Tom Karinshak. My name is [redacted]. I am genuinely sorry for your concerns with requesting to have the WeatherScan channel added back to your channel line-up. I assure you I will do everything I can to resolve all your issues.

We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about wanting to have the WeatherScan added back to your line-up and I have noted your request with ticket ER [redacted]. I have submitted this request to our programming and development department who keeps track of all channel requests. This request does not guarantee that this channel will be added. This request is for tracking purpose only. What this all means is that we take all requests for new networks very seriously, and that we carefully consider the overall impact of adding each network. While we cannot honor every request, we do take each request into consideration in planning future changes to the line-up. Our goal is to provide a wide choice of quality cable networks and local broadcast channels reflecting the diverse programming interests of our customers. Comcast continually strives to add value to our XFINITY TV services and enhance the customer experience with advanced products and services. As a result, Comcast must sometimes remove channels that have lower viewership to make space for higher valued, more popular channels and to keep our line ups consistent across markets. There are a few alternatives that are available to customers:

· The Weather Channel is still available and provides localized weather every ten minutes on Local on the 8's. We are also in the process of launching the localized Weather Channel Feed in HD across all markets

· There is a weather app available to customers with the X1 platform - Check Weather using the X1 Weather App can be emailed to customers

· We have also found that most of our customers access this information through their mobile devices and the Internet

If you have further questions, please reply directly to this e-mail.

Mr. Jensen, we appreciate your business here at Comcast and thank you for giving us the opportunity to resolve your issue.

Sincerely,

[redacted]

Office of Tom Karinshak

Re: Weather Scan Channel Going Away????

Somethings on cable should be considered a public service and safety concern for customers..weather for one.

Some of the offerings being given us have to also have that criteria considered in channel lineup changes.

And Comcast employee's in Tom K's office should actually watch the present incarnation of the Weather Channel. I have some friends that still get it and they don't watch it much due to the reality programming. But when they do they said that during primetime reality programming the Locals on the 8's don't always come on every 8 minutes.

Re: Weather Scan Channel Going Away????

Channel doesn't need to be 'added'.  It needs to be reinstated.

Reponse appears to be a canned response.  It doesn't address concerns directly.

Re: Weatherscan Taken Away - Terrible Decision

I agree completely.  Our Weatherscan channel was taken away on  6.12.2014.  There was no warning.  It was there one day and not the next.

I called Comcast to register my dissatisfaction.  A recorded message came on saying something like, "if you are calling for any reason other than the discontinuation of weatherscan press 1 to continue."  Essentially they were saying go away.  Don't bother us. We don't care about you.  I continued anyway. The first person was clueless.  The second was not aware of the removal.  He told me it was still  in my line-up. After explaining that the recording stated it had been removed, he did try to find the reason for the removal but couldn't find anything. I asked him to up-channel my dissatisfaction with the removal of Weatherscan.  He said he would document it in my account.  I have absolutely no confidence that anyone who has anything  to do with decision-making will ever review the comment.

If it is a matter of $ there are many, many useless channels that could have been discontinued instead.  Weatherscan was useful.  Bring it back!

Re: alternate weatherscan source

If you have to go online for weather http://www.wunderground.com is better than NOAA and way better than TWC.  On the wundermap you can get the radar, storm tracks, hail storms, lightening strikes, tornadic thunder storms, storm direction, warnings, advisories, and alerts, storm reports, tornado reports; all presented visually one one map. You get to choose which details are displayed and what type of map you see.  You can even see the temp and wind speed and direction right in your neighborhood.  They offer you much more information than you ever dreamed was out there.

However, I don't want to always have to go on-line everytime I need to see the weather and Weatherscan was the best thing on T.V. It needs to be brought back.

Re: What happened to Weatherscan Local on 101?

Comcast Cable cancelled the Weatherscan channel 101 in 11 Western States.  I am in AZ and there is no longer 101 listed in the channel lineup. But Comcast will not give an answer as to why.  And the Weather Channel said it is Comcast not them that cancelled Weatherscan.

bring back the Weatherscan Channel

We have been a customer of Comcast Cable for over 8 years.  We really depend and watch the Weatherscan channel 101 in Tucson,AZ.  It gives us update temps, radar, etc. which we need expecially during Monsoon season. Comcast cancelled this channel completely. There is no longer 101 listed. In fact the Weather Channel told me Comcast Cancelled this channel in 11 western states.

And channel 22 which is now 41 only gives Tucson on the 8th. The scrolling gives us the US cities not our local cities. I have contacted the Weather Channel several times on the problem of scrolling US cities instead of local cities.  Which they are still working on.

I would much rather have the Weatherscan Channel 101 than The Weather Channel 41.

PLEASE BRING BACK THE WEATHERSCHAN CHANNEL......

Re: Weather Scan Channel Going Away????

If Comcast makes a new weather channel and says "..it's all knew and so..so great".  Remind them that WeatherScan was great too.  That rebranding a service that was already great isn't the same as coming up with original local programming.

When Comcast franchise contract runs out in my area.  I'll tell the franchise board or utility commission that Comcast stopped a good thing.  Not for the sake of business, but for the sake of rebranding something that will most likely be less effective.  Why less effective?  There were no commericials.  Something important like local weather doesn't need commercials.  It needs accurate information, not some talking heads drink'in coffee and asking what 'Merica want to here.

There's enough of that.  Keep it simple..stupid!

As you can see this is pretty much the same "form" used to post here in the forum from ComcastTeds. And I checked, the HD Weather Channel does not have the local weather feed, you must tune to the SD Weather Channel to see the banners and text they refer to.

Notice the references to "adding a channel" and then the familiar blurb about "removing" a channel. Someone is very good with cut and paste, obviously.

Note that "higher-valued" word. This means they bring in ad revenue. It means that providing a commercial-free community service oriented channel such as WeatherScan has no "value" to them.

Obviously it has value to us, or we wouldn't have sought out this forum to voice our concerns.

And as everyone has noted, calling the customer service number was pretty much a useless task as they were in the dark as well.

I have no doubt Comcast will simply continue to spout the company propaganda to this complaint.

It was said the residents of Pilger Nebraska had about TEN MINUTES of warning before the twin tornadoes hit. Do you think they had time to tune into the Weather Channel and wait for "Local on the 8's" to cycle around?

Perhaps Comcast should send a group of their executives out to visit Pilger Nebraska to understand why something like this is SO important to a community, frankly.

Weatherscan

I used the Weatherscan station, channel 101, several times a day. The cancellation of this channel was a topic of conversation with friends at a restaurant on Sunday in Edina. As many other xfinity customers have sent similar requests, would you work with The Weather Channel to bring this service back to us?

Re: Weather Scan Channel Going Away????

I've talked to the people at The Weather Channel and they confirm that Comcast made the awful decision to remove the regional weather scan from the programming line up. We watch it many times per day. It is a vital information resource for my family. I pay more than $300 every month for bundled services and feel VERY betrayed by this programming deco on. We NEVER watch the regular weather channel or the local news. Please, please , please restore the regional 24/7 weather scan to the Portland, Oregon programming line up.

Today, The Weather Channel (CH 35 in my viewing area) disappeared. The channel slot now has Bloomberg "Bloom" in its stead.  I get so tired of Comcast's unilateral decisions on programming.  I'm also tired of having a wide selection of "I couldn't be less interested" channels and endlessly repeating movies and episodes.  Furthermore, I don't believe a merger between Comcast and Time-Warner would be in the best interest of our cable markets.  Let your senators and representatives know what you think.
