Universal Sports Returning?

Does anyone know if comcast is bringing Universal Sports back, especially with the Olympics approaching. They carried it until the beginning of this year.

Re: Universal Sports Returning?

ComcastTeds might know more about contract negotiations with Universal Sports, he checks in during the weekdays.

The NBC Olympic site doesn't have full details yet on carriage, but it does say prelimany programming will be on NBC and NBCSN, (NBC sports network) which is carried on most Comcast systems.

There is no firm proof that any Olympics will be carried on Universal Sports when NBC has so many other programming channels including MSNBC, CNBC & Universal HD all in HD.

Re: Universal Sports Returning?

In addition to  NBC, NBC Sports Network, MSNBC, CNBC, and Universal HD NBC also owns Bravo and USA Network and they plan on utilizing all of the NBC/Universal family of stations for Olympic coverage so there will be plenty of it available!

Re: Universal Sports Returning?

It's not just the Olympics, but I really enjoy watching the skiing (alpine and cross country), the cycling and the different sledding events which are not carried with such variety on any other channel.

Re: Universal Sports Returning?

what is it about these threads that people just seem to try to divert from the issue.

Can we get some statement from Comcast as to whether they are going to carry Universal Sports?

To be clear, Comcast did not take anything away. I realize that this is a matter of semantics with some customers as you used to be able to see Universal Sports Network on Comcast and now you can't.

Universal Sports Network was initially provided at no cost (and over the air) via the local NBC broadcast station in several areas.

The Universal Sports Network and the local NBC stations removed the Universal Sports signal from their over the air signal (and thus from Comcast) and are negotiating a business deal (payment) so that they can be paid and our customers can view the channel. The Universal Sports Network made a business decision that they wanted to get paid for their programming (and there is nothing wrong with that).

They then removed their signal from the local NBC station which replaced it with other programming.

NBCUniversal has a minority, non-controlling ownership in the Universal Sports Network

Universal Sports Network is negotiating business terms for cable carriage with many video providers, including Comcast. Those negotiations are ongoing.

As with any network contract, we want to come to an agreement that offers the best terms for our customers and our company that keeps both our costs and our customer's monthly costs to a minimum.

I don't currently have a timeframe for if or when the channel could possibly be available.

Re: Universal Sports Returning?

i just read that nbc will be airing 2500 hours worth of olympic programming online this summer.

http://www.multichannel.com/article/483318-NBCU_to_Live_Stream_All_Sports_from_London_Olympics_as_Pa...

" In another first, NBCOlympics.com, which has been revamped today in concert with the 100-day countdown to the opening ceremony, will provide multiple concurrent streams for select sports, inlcuding gymnastics (each apparatus), track and field (each event), and tennis (up to five courts). To that end during an athletics session, users instead of viewing only a single feed that migrates from event to event can elect to watch a stream dedicated to say, the long jump or javelin competition."

No live Olympic coverage from London is scheduled to be on Univeral Sports.
