Proxy server connection

I could use some help here. I am a beginner. I am receiving a notice that I have to "verify current proxy server configuration". I only have a personal computer and understand I should not have a proxy server. I am unable to access the internet via Internet Explorer because of this proxy server problem.  What do I have to do?

In Internet Explorer 8.

Click on Tools

Click on Internet Options

Click on Connection

Click on Lan Settings

Uncheck the box relating to "Use Proxy Server"

Close that window which brings you back to the Connection Window

Put a Dot in "Never Dial a Connection"

Click OK


The process is similar for earlier versions of IE
