Ever since I started using Xfinity a few months back my download speed is way below par. It seems like its the same speed as when DSL first came out. When i download a semi large game from the internet it takes literally 14 hours. At my friends house it took me under an hour to download the same exact game on her connection. I download at 176 kb/s max which is just rediculous. At her house it was a steady 3.0 MB/s wow! I dont know if this is because i just have a really low internet package or if its a modem issue. Nothing seems to work in speeding it up.

You could also try taking your router out of the mix and connect a machine directly to the modem to see if it is causing a bottleneck. You will need to properly powercycle the modem when doing so and then again when you re-insert it.

I have tried taking the router out of the mix as well ahile back. It was still the exact same. I know I do have a lower spectrum tier but I really didn't think anything was this slow anymore.
So I just upgraded. I was told to pull the power from the modem and the router for 45 seconds for it to update the speed. I did that and it is still the same speed. So i was wondering if I just have to wait awhile and it will click into gear or if there is something else that I need to do.
This is something that should have been able to be completed and verified before the end of the phone call.
What is the exact make and model number of the modem ? If you have their phone service and it is a telephony type modem, you will need to push the recessed reset button on the rear rather than unplugging it from the power outlet in order to properly powercycle/reset it.
