Downstream level changed

I notice today my Downstream Power Level has changed from +8dB to now -2dB and SNR is 38dB, that is a big difference, so I might have a problem since we had falling trees during the last snow storm up here in Cascade MD, should I put in a troubleshooting ticket.

not the answer I was looking for, since the dB level has changed- alot- yes there is a problem, also the on demand could have issues

Re: Downstream level changed

-10 dBmV to +10 dBmV is the spec for downstream power levels.  Are you out of spec?

Re: Downstream level changed

the point is, when the repair Tech came out to do the setup he used all my equipment and not his because mine was better then what comcast offered and he was very happy with the results, less cable loss, better splitters, soild connectors not cables, splitting the Modem/on-demand off from the other TV ports, and he liked the download pwr level which was +8dB/SNA 38dB which was the best he seen in a while.

The signal stats should never fluctuate more than 2-3 dB Even though your downstream power has actually gotten better. What does the upstream power level figure look like ? Keep an eye on your stats for a while and see if they remain relatvely stable. If not. and you experience issues even with your T.V. reception, you should call it back in for a tech to investigate further.

It's actually even tighter now-a-days in upgraded to DOCSIS 3 systems. -7 dB to +7 dB is the preferred range with - 10 dB to +10 dB being the very outer limits.

Re: Downstream level changed

That hasn't been updated in a while... Neither have the sticky troubleshooting topics here in this forum.

Upstream is +49dB.

and most likely why the Tech liked my setup because the on-demand box.

The Wife states the On-demand picture is not always good , it has rips during playback.

Re: Downstream level changed

That is at the upper limit of being in spec (should be below 50 db) but it doesn't leave much wiggle room for fluctuations. 40 to 45 dB would be better.
